About Dr. Luque English Communication

At Dr. Luque English Communication, we know that communicating in multiple languages is an impressive skill. However, there can be frustrations when communication in a second or third (or more) language when talking to people one on one in a casual or work setting, when giving presentations, or in passing interactions. This may come from misunderstandings that occur or your own confidence. Having an accent is beautiful, and it shows your incredible skill with language, but we understand that you want to communicate effectively. We can help you do that by addressing specific pronunciations that may cause confusion, general American English conversational phrases and patterns, or practicing academic or business presentations. We can also help edit written work. Our goal is to help you communicate the way you want!

Dr. Jenna Luque is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist with over 15 years experience working with individuals on their English communication. Her PhD is in the area of speech-language pathology, and she holds masters' degrees in both speech-language pathology and linguistics.

Dr. Luque has published scholarly articles on research related to accent enhancement and presented at national conferences on the topic. As a professor, she teaches future speech-language pathologists about best practices in this and other clinical areas.

Working with English language learners is a passion for Dr. Luque. She grew up in Miami where bilingualism is the norm. Though English is her native language, she is very familiar with the case of knowing what she wants to say but still having difficulty being understood when speaking Spanish. She also married into an Ecuadorian family where English is a second language for everybody, so she lives these strategies daily.

Dr. Luque English Communication offers many types of services to help you as needed. Most of our services are offered via Zoom, but for groups we can travel.

We offer one-on-one, 55-minute, sessions that focus on pronunciation. Depending on your level and specific goals, you might learn the tongue posture for each English sound or you might work  on automaticity in conversation. 

We offer one-on-one, shorter, conversation sessions. These sessions are more free flow and target general American conversational style and content. That may also include American culture.

We offer one-on-one presentation practice sessions. This gives presenters a chance to get feedback on materials, content, and delivery.

We also offer editing help on any written documents you may have. 

We offer workshops for groups. These workshops might focus on English sound production, American conversation style, professional presentations, or other topics as needed. 

Finally, we can also be offered as a benefit for a business. This might look like an office hour where employees can drop in plus a certain number of sessions provided by the company.
